Baška, Košice-okolie District

Baška (1247 "Terra Pousa, Bosk", "Bayan", 1399 "Bosk, Bask", 1427 "Baask", 1612 "Bosko, Boska") ( _de. Baumgarten, Boschko; _hu. Baska) is a village and municipality in Košice-okolie District in the Kosice Region of eastern Slovakia.

History

Historically, the village was first mentioned in 1247. in this period, it belonged to Abov (Abó) family local branch. It’s name derive from Slovak personal Bosk. In 1427 it belonged to Frank family of Šemša. In 1447 the village was bought by the captain Peter from the Zips(Spiš) county. In 1580 it belonged to Myslava town, and in this period the exploitation of local woods began. From 1939 to 1944 it belonged to Hungary.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 350 metres and covers an area of 4.502 km².It has a population of about 325 people.
