HMS Defender (D36)

HMS "Defender" is the fifth ship of the Type 45 or 'D' Class of air defence destroyer (AAW) being built for the Royal Navy.

Construction and Launch

"Defender"'s construction began at the BAE Systems Naval Ships (now part of BVT Surface Fleet) yard at Scotstoun on the River Clyde in July 2006. The planned launch date is not yet in the public domain.

Design

The "Daring" class will be one of the most advanced air-defence warship classes in the world. [cite news | title = World's most advanced destroyer launched tomorrow
