Thiruvonam is a panchayat town in Thanjavur District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Geography

Thiruvonam is located at coord|10.30|N|79.10|E|. It has an average elevation of 36 metres (120 feet).

Demographics

A small town located south of Thanjavur and has population about approximately 1000. A panchayat union comprises more than 20 small villages and has its northern boundary spread across lower southern part of city of Thanjavur. N.S.Durairaj being current chairman of panchayat union while Mahesh serving present member of Legislative Assembly of state of Tamilnadu. History of this town dates back to early 1000 A.D. and was one of important places of pilgrimage for Cholas kingdom. It's soccer team named MuthuThangappa Football club and festival of temple of Muthumariamman are widely regarded.
