Netsoc

Netsoc refers to an Irish student based Internet Society. There are many of these organisations in various universities and institutes of technology in Ireland, the first one established in the University of Limerick in 1992.

UCD Netsoc ( [http://www.netsoc.com Netsoc.com] )

"Netsoc" in UCD was founded in 1995. The primary mandate for Netsoc was to address the issue of a lack of internet access for undergraduate students. Netsoc's goal was to provide full Internet access to all students. Access was available only at certain restricted times of day for undergraduate students even up until 2000.Netsoc offers students email and storeage space for webpages and personal files, with their main focus on providing unrestricted proxy access to compete with UCD Computer Services proxy. Netsoc also hosts technical talks and demonstrations from various organisations in the computer industry.

Redbrick ( [http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/ Redbrick] )

Founded in 1995, Redbrick is the name of the Dublin City University networking society. The name of the society is inspired by the predominantly Redbrick architecture of the DCU campus. Redbrick offers its members a wide range of social networking related services which include email, online storage space, IRC as part of the Intersocs network, a society wiki, and newsgroups. Redbrick administrates these services from a server room located in DCU's student centre 'The Hub' which stores multiple redbrick servers as well as a hosted DCU Games Society server. Redbrick also runs various social events throught the college term in addition to educational events such as programming tutorials and technology demonstrations.

Recently Redbrick won best website at the 2008 Board of Irish Colleges (BICS) Awards.

UCC NetSoc

The UCC NetSoc is the University College of Cork networking society. The society was originally founded to address the lack of computer and internet access on the colleges campus, but as this issue was resolved by the university, the society has changed its focus more towards administrating a student web server in the college, running gaming events, coding tutorials, guest lectures and trips to other technological events in Ireland.

IT Tallaght NetSoc

The ITT computing society (NetSoc) came into existence as of 2004 after the original computer society(CompSoc) disbanded in 2001.

Aims and Objectives
