Metalcore band, comprised of members from the bands40 Below Summer and Flaw. The Black Market Hero story begins in New York City, with the hiatus of rock bands Flaw and 40 Below Summer in full effect by the fall of 2005. At that time Max Illidge (vocals) and Joey D’Amico (guitar) of 40 Below Summer, connected with Ryan Jurhs (guitar) of the band Flaw. They continued as 40 Below Summer, but soon realized that too much had changed. They subsequently made the decision to change the name and direction of the band. The trio sensed that one crucial ingredient was missing and that in order to truly emerge as a force to be reckoned with they would need to find an amazing drummer. The decision was easy. Micah Havertape (drums) of the band Flaw was called-upon. With the notoriety of their previous groups, much hype ensued after the announcement. In March of 2006, once again the band found itself searching for another member. After a long and somewhat-entertaining audition process, the band found what they were looking for. In August of 2006, Matt Fortin (bass) signed on with Black Market Hero.Flaw and 40 Below Summer have combined album sales nearing 600k records and toured extensively. Those tours included Ozzfest 2002, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Drowning Pool, Ill Nino, and Mushroomhead, to name a few. Black Market Hero is looking to capitalize on a huge built-in fan base.
Black Market Hero is a dynamic, hard-driven, aggressive heavy metal band with an intense blend of bottom-heavy riffs and soulful, accessible melodies. There’s true substance, passion, emotion and relevancy in each of their songs. Black Market Hero is dedicated to realizing its unique musical vision and will take advantage of every moment and opportunity, allowing nothing to derail their intention of making hard rock and heavy metal take notice.
With the line-up complete and an arsenal of new material, Black Market Hero will open the book on a new phase of their journey.
