Simon Childs

"Simon Childs" (born 6 March 1988) is a top 200 , British junior tennis player. He is currently ranked 105 in the Junior World Rankings. He was educated at the John Lyon School.

Biography

Simon grew up in Hillingdon, with his younger brother Stuart, and from an early age both brothers had an enormous liking and aptitude for the game of tennis. This was helped by the fact that both his father and mother played at a high level of tennis. Indeed Simon and his father Peter won the Fred Perry UK National Father and Son competition in 2004. Simon’s interest in tennis continued to grow as Stuart’s was replaced with other sporting activities. Simon started tennis at the age of 6 and soon graduated from short tennis to the full game.

He won many tournaments between the ages of 8 and 14, representing his County Buckinghamshire on numerous occasions. Simon spent two great summers in 2002 and 2003 at John Newcombe's Tennis ranch in Texas USA, where he won several sanctioned tournaments. "Newks" showed Simon what work and application was needed to be a champion, and their work ethos has stayed with him ever since.

Simon then joined the FITAcademy run by Shane Fone. This was a crucial move for Simon and it has proved to be very important and also very successful in Simon's development over the last two years.
