Steven Drukman

Steven Drukman is a Pulitzer Prize nominated playwright. His plays are darkly comic and often political.

Biography

In 1999, Drukman received a Ph.D. from New York University, where he is currently a full-time professor. Drukman spent many years writing for the Arts and Leisure section of "The New York Times". He wrote "Going Native" which premiered in 2002 at the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. One of his best known works is "Another Fine Mess", a Pulitzer nominee in 2003.

Drukman is also the author of two adaptations of plays by Aleksandr Ostrovsky, titled "Flattery Will Get You" (often translated as "Diary of a Scoundrel") which premiered at Connecticut Repertory Theatre, and "Snowmaiden", which premiered at the Bob Hope Theater in Dallas, Texas. In addition, he is an actor who appeared in the 2006 film "East Broadway".

Drukman's play "In This Corner" premiered at The Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, CA in late 2007. "In This Corner" examines the lives of boxers Joe Louis and Max Schmeling during the time period 1930-1970.
