Alquimou

Alquimou

Alquimou is one spelling variation of the Mi'kmaq clan name, Alguimou. Its original version came from "L'kimu" meaning "he sends." Misel Alguimou became baptized as Michael Augustine on the Feast of St. Augustine in the 1700s. He signed treaties on behalf of the Richibucto Tribe of Mi'kmaq with the British Crown. His descendants are now found in Elsipogtog (formerly known as Big Cove), Eel Ground, Red Bank, and Burnt Church First Nations. Other variations include forms of: Arguimeau, Arguimou, and Ulguimo. There was a legend recorded of a Chief Alguimou.
