- JDS Ishikari (DE-226)
The JDS Ishikari (DE-226) is the successor of the earlier Chikugo class. A modern
Otobreda 76 mm gun replaced its predecessor's older 3-inch gun and automation greatly reduced the number of crew needed. Beginning with this ship, the traditional ASW mission of the JMSDF destroyer escort (frigate) was further expanded to includeAnti-Surface Warfare by adopting theHarpoon missile .It was decided that the Ishikari was too small to continue production, so it was succeeded by the Yubari class two years later.
