South Carolina Club for Growth

South Carolina Club for Growth

The South Carolina Club for Growth is a statewide network of men and women from from all walks of life who believe that prosperity and opportunity come through economic freedom. According to their website: "members support the Reagan vision of economic growth through limited government and lower taxes." The South Carolina Club is an affiliate organization of the national Club for Growth.

The role of the state club is to mirror these goals for South Carolina government and follow their primary tactic of providing financial support from Club members to viable pro-growth candidates to the state legislature, particularly in Republican primaries.

Recent Election Activity

The South Carolina Club for Growth was founded in 2004, but became more active early in the 2006 Primary Election Cycle with the hiring of a full-time Executive Director and the expansion of the Board of Directors. The Club endorsed and financially supported ten state house candidates and two statewide candidates: Mark Sanford (for reelection as Governor) and Karen Floyd (for Superintendent of Education.) Six of the ten house candidate won, as did both of the statewide candidates. The Club appears to be poised for further election action in future cycles.

Issues

The Club is focused on eight main policy areas and objectives:

Control Government Growth

Provide Tax Relief

Reform SC Government Spending Process

Streamline SC Government Structure

School Choice & Educational Free Market Reforms

Union Disclosure

Eminent Domain Reform

Tort Reform
