Støren (Audio|Stoeren.ogg|Støren) is a former municipality in
Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway.Støren was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see
formannskapsdistrikt ). Three other municipalities were later separated from it:Horg (1840),Soknedal (1841) andBudal (1880). Støren was merged together with Budal, Soknedal andSingsås to create the new municipality ofMidtre Gauldal January 1, 1964. Støren is today theadministrative center of Midtre Gauldal.The name
The parish is named after the old farm Støren (Norse "Staurvin"), since the first church was built there. The first element is "staurr"' m 'pointed pole', the last element is "vin" f 'meadow, pasture'. The word "staurr" are probably referring to the pointed headland made by the meeting of the two rivers of
Gaula andSokna - on which the church is lying.tøren in the media
