"Something I Learned Today" is a song by the Alternative rock/Punk rock band Hüsker Dü. It is the opening song on their landmark 1984 double album, "Zen Arcade".

Meaning and style

The song was written by guitarist Bob Mould and is simply about growing up and not trusting many people. This fast-paced song, with simple verse and chord progressions, is considered to be one of their most well-known songs. It begins with a simple drum beat, then an undulating bass rhythm, and then it finally kicks into the verse riff. Mould and Hart harmonize vocally in the chorus.

Trivia

*According to "Zen Arcade"'s liner notes, "Something I Learned Today" and "Newest Industry" were the album's only songs that were "not" recorded in one take.
*The song was later covered by Swedish Death Metal band Entombed, and released on their cover album "Sons of Satan Praise the Lord".
*"Something I Learned Today: An International Tribute to Zen Arcade" [http://www.powertoolrecords.co.nz/krapprecords.htm] was compiled in 2004 for "Zen Arcade's" 20th anniversary by fans of Hüsker Dü and members of a long-running listserv for fans of the band Sugar.
