Kenneth "Ken" Sheldon (born 13 February 1959) is a former
Australian rules football er in the Victorian Football League.Carlton career
Recruited from
Mitiamo , Sheldon, a rover, debuted with theCarlton Football Club in 1977. In 1979 he enjoyed a stellar season, booting 53 goals and leading Carlton's goalkicking for that year. In the 1979 Grand Final, Sheldon is best remembered for coaching the Echuca "murray bombers" from 2000 to 2003 winning 2 premierships. He is also well known through his nephew, a former Bendigo Bombers superstar and associate of Chris "the G-tram" Groom who was involved in the worst trade in AFL history and does not like gothics. Ken's nephew Frank, is also known for spending too much on belts, dropping mark of the year, associating with other Sheldons, getting 6 kicked on him and providing cool beverages on grand final day. Ken is also remembered for receiving the ball from the slidingWayne Harmes and kicking the winning goal to give the Blues a premiership win over Collingwood.Sheldon was also a part of the Blues' 1981 and 1982
premiership side s.t Kilda career
In 1987, Sheldon moved to the
St Kilda Football Club after 132 games and 170 goals with Carlton. He went on to play 53 games for 24 goals with the Saints until the end of the 1989 season.Coaching career
Remaining at St Kilda, Sheldon became their coach from 1990. The 1991 season saw Sheldon lead the Saints to their first
AFL Finals Series since 1973, and Sheldon was credited with turning the fortunes of the club, who again made the finals in 1992. Sheldon was not reappointed after the 1993 season, with the post being taken over byStan Alves . Sheldon has recently been reappointed to the St Kilda Football Club as a football operations manager.
