Space Force

Space Force

A BBC Radio science fiction serial written by Charles Chilton which ran for two years, a sequel to the 1950s serial Journey Into Space. Both series were composed of six episodes and starred Barry Foster, Nigel Stock, Nicky Henson and Tony Osoba.

The series was initially to have been a continuation of Journey into Space, using the cast who'd just made a one-off revival of that series, The Return from Mars. This idea was dropped late in the day, and the four characters are noticeably renamed versions of the Journey into Space quartet, while Henson's character Chipper is stated to be the grandson of Lemmy from Journey into Space.

The episodes of the first series, entitled "Space Force" and broadcast in 1984 were called:

# "The Voice from Nowhere"
# "Towards the Unknown"
# "The Silver Strangers"
# "The Time Ship"
# "Threshold of the Stars"
# "Marooned in Space"

The episodes of the second series, entitled "Space Force 2" and broadcast in 1985 were called:

# "The Return of the Sun God"
# "The Red Planet"
# "The Great Martian Pyramid"
# "A Test of Endurance"
# "Living with Death"
# "Unto Death and Beyond"

Both the first and second run of these episodes reused commercially available incidental music by Jerry Goldsmith. Cues from Outland and Capricorn One can be heard in series one and can be heard in series two.
