ABIOMED is a global technology leader focused on recovering hearts and saving lives. The company is based in Danvers, Massachusetts and builds the AbioCor Artificial Heart, the first fully implanted device of its kind.

Abiomed was founded more than two decades ago and is the only company in the world with exclusive labeling on ventricular assist devices for all potentially recoverable heart failure indications. The Company develops, manufactures and markets advanced medical technologies designed to assist or replace the pumping function of the failing heart. Abiomed is the global leader for products in the acute heart failure market and ships more ventricle assist devices (VADs) than any other company in the world.

2009/2010 Expansion

In late July 2008, Abiomed has confirmed that it is to set up a new production facility in Athlone, Ireland which will employ 250 people.The facility has a total of 33,000 square feet of space including approximately 10,000 square feet of finished clean room space. The longer-term plans for the Athlone facility will be to designate Ireland as Abiomed's global centre of excellence for high-volume disposable products manufacturing including the Impella 2.5 and the extended Impella product line of the Impella 5.0, right percutaneous and Impella pediatric products and other circulatory care disposable products that Abiomed may offer in the future.
