Judy Peiser

Judy Peiser

Judy Peiser (Born June 4, 1945) is co-founder and current executive director of the Center for Southern Folklore in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Illinois and a master's degree from the University of Memphis [http://www.southernfolklore.com/judy.htm] .

Peiser founded the Center for Southern Folklore in 1972 along with William Ferris.

Peiser has produced numerous documentary films including "Fannie Bell Chapman: Gospel Singer", "Gravel Springs Fife and Drum", and "Ray Lum: Mule Trader". [http://www.folkstreams.net/filmmaker,67]

She is currently a member of the board of directors of the North American Folk Alliance. [http://www.folkalliance.org/about_us/index.php] .

Peiser is a frequent lecturer at preservation and folk gatherings throughout the world. She was recognized by "Esquire Magazine" for changing America and by "Southern Living" for having made a difference in the changing South.Fact|date=January 2007
