notes=The Battle of Koromogawa took place during the opening years of the
Kamakura period (12th century) of Japan.Although the vast amount of victories that were won by
Minamoto no Yoritomo 's brother, Yoshitsune truly was the reason for Yoritomo's ascension to the title ofShogun , Yoritomo attained a very high level of jealousy towards his brother. Due to this fact, Yoritomo banished Yoshitsune, who was even pursued to the far northern region of Japan. This led to the Battle of Koromogawa, ending with Yoshitsune's defeat. Throughout the defeat of the Minamoto clan forces,Benkei bravely protected his lord, Yoshitsune to the death. It is noted that when Benkei was killed during this battle, he had died standing, which greatly pounded fear within his enemies. Yoshitsune himself would sadly be killed following Benkei's death.References
