Hildegarde Dolson Lockridge (1908—1981) was a poet, playwright and novelist who wrote 14 books, including "We Shook the Family Tree," "Guess Whose Hair I'm Wearing," "To Spite Her Face," and "A Dying Fall."

Dolson was born and grew up in Franklin, Pennsylvania, and after college, she moved to New York City, where she wrote for magazinesFact|date=February 2007 and penned mystery stories. Dolson's best-known work is "We Shook the Family Tree", a book about her experiences growing up, which became a successful paperback for Scholastic Press and was adapted for the stage.
