The Anderson Braves were a
minor league baseball team located inAnderson, South Carolina . The team played in theSouth Atlantic League , and were affiliated with theAtlanta Braves . Their home stadium wasAnderson Memorial Stadium .The Anderson Braves started playing in 1980 in Anderson. That first team had future major leaguers Brett Butler,
Brook Jacoby andBrad Komminsk . In May 1980, several of the players were arrested for fishing in Lake Hartwell with fishing licenses. The fans in Anderson really supported the Anderson Braves during the 1980 season. Local radio stationWANS AM/FM was a major sponsor. "Hank Aaron Night" brought out many fans to the ballpark in August 1980.The Anderson Braves were a big success. Many fans packed the stadium every night. They had many contests, events and discounted food and snacks. Sadly, 1984 was the last season for the Anderson Braves. Despite local support, Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner decided to move the team to Sumter, South Carolina. Anderson Memorial Stadium was without a professional baseball team until 2007 when the newly created Independent team The Anderson Joes came to town.
