__NOTOC__Poznań County ( _pl. powiat poznański) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Greater Poland Voivodeship, west-central Poland. It was created on January 1, 1999 as a result of the Local Government Reorganization Act of 1998. Its administrative seat is the city of Poznań, although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county). The county contains 10 towns: Swarzędz, convert|11|km|mi|0|abbr=on east of centre of Poznań, Luboń, convert|8|km|mi|0|abbr=on south of centre of Poznań, Mosina, convert|18|km|mi|0|abbr=on south of centre of Poznań, Murowana Goślina, convert|20|km|mi|0|abbr=on north of centre of Poznań, Puszczykowo, convert|14|km|mi|0|abbr=on south of centre of Poznań, Kostrzyn, convert|21|km|mi|0|abbr=on east of centre of Poznań, Pobiedziska, convert|27|km|mi|0|abbr=on north-east of centre of Poznań, Kórnik, convert|22|km|mi|0|abbr=on south-east of centre of Poznań, Buk, convert|28|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of centre of Poznań, and Stęszew, convert|21|km|mi|0|abbr=on south-west of centre of Poznań.

The county covers an area of convert|1899.61|km2|sqmi|1. As of 2006 its total population is 291,562, out of which the population of Swarzędz is 29,894, that of Luboń is 26,935, that of Mosina is 12,150, that of Murowana Goślina is 10,140, that of Puszczykowo is 9,311, that of Kostrzyn is 8,539, that of Pobiedziska is 8,329, that of Kórnik is 6,981, that of Buk is 6,181, that of Stęszew is 5,339, and the rural population is 167,763.

Neighbouring counties

Apart from the city of Poznań, Poznań County is also bordered by Oborniki County and Wągrowiec County to the north, Gniezno County and Września County to the east, Środa Wielkopolska County to the south-east, Śrem County and Kościan County to the south, Grodzisk Wielkopolski County and Nowy Tomyśl County to the west, and Szamotuły County to the north-west.
