Lionbridge Services

Lionbridge helps organizations with the development, translation, testing, and maintenance of content and technology applications.

Translation

Lionbridge provides solutions for localization and translation needs of companies operating globally. Specialty areas include translation and localization of Web sites, mobile devices, software, and clinical trials.

Lionbridge full-time translators, "in-country" agencies, and subject matter experts prepare products and content for the following industries: Automotive, Consumer, Education, Financial Services, Government, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Technology, and Telco/Mobile.

Freeway

Freeway is an online translation service delivery platform operated by Lionbridge. It was built upon the Logoport language asset management system and it is an on-demand web application. It enables immediate addition of new users and simultaneous release of new features to users.

Language Quality Services (LQS)

Language Quality Services (LQS) is a division in Lionbridge offering highly specialized linguistic audit and consultancy services in 80 different languages. LQS provides customers with tailored solutions designed specifically to meet their requirements and offering them a wide variety of options that enable them to build their own specific quality validation model.

Interpretation

Lionbridge provides interpretation services world-wide. The company’s largest center for provision of interpretation services is its Government business unit, located in Washington, D.C. Lionbridge serves clients in many areas including business, medical/social services and state government, with a special emphasis on clients within the Federal government. Examples of government clients include the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

One of Lionbridge’s longest-running government contracts is its contract with the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), which provides for court interpreters in over 100 immigration court locations nationwide. Lionbridge has held this contract since 1986, and to date has provided interpreters in over 350 languages and dialects. Because of the nature of immigration court requirements, many of these languages are rarely interpreted officially in legal settings and have few trained interpreters. To address this challenge, Lionbridge has developed extensive testing and quality assurance procedures for its pool of immigration court interpreters.

Lionbridge Government offers a range of language services to its government clients, including over-the-phone interpreting, Title III monitors, conference interpretation, translation and localization, and linguists placed directly into Federal government offices.

In Ireland, Lionbridge provides interpreters to the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner, Refugee Appeals Tribunal and to the Courts Service.

Internationalization

Lionbridge provides Internationalization ("i18n") services such as audits which help identify and resolve issues, i18n training, coding and enabling, consulting, and localization readiness and functional i18n testing.

Development and Test

Lionbridge provides application development and maintenance and testing services. Testing specialties include performance testing, functionality testing, localization testing, storage testing, mobile device testing, requirements analysis, user acceptance testing, test automation, competitive analysis, certification testing, and test process consulting. Development capabilities include custom product engineering, data migration, and application maintenance.

Controversies/court cases

During 2006-2008, Lionbridge was involved in two court cases.

Employee obligations

A Colorado jury awarded an employee $1,313,570 in damages in 2006. Lionbridge failed to fulfill its obligation to help the employee obtain a green card. Upon review, the judge reduced the noneconomic award to $366,250 and reduced the economic damages award to $221,433. This award is under appeal. Union dismissal

On February 12 2008, a workplace union representative of Lionbridge Poland was summarily dismissed. The dismissal came shortly after the announcement to management that a trade union had been formed in the Warsaw office. The person who was fired was elected as a union representative and thus was protected from dismissal under Polish Labour Law. The case has been filed in a Polish Labour Court.
