Seyoum Mesfin

Seyoum Mesfin

Seyoum Mesfin (Seyoum Mesfin Gebredingle) (born January 1949) is the current Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Born in Tigray Province, Seyoum has a science training and academic background, gained first at Bahar Dar Polytechnic Institute and later from his four-year tenure at the Science Faculty of Addis Ababa University.

He started managing the conduct of Ethiopia’s diplomacy following the overthrow of the Derg in May 1991 by the forces of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF).

Besides his present post as Foreign Minister, Seyoum Mesfin continues to serve as the Deputy Chairperson of the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF), a member of the 4-party coalition that forms the EPRDF. He also serves as an Executive Member of the EPRDF. In the TPLF, he is Meles Zenawi's Deputy. He is also the chairman of Ethiopian Airlines, the nation's national flag carrier.

Mesfin is married and has four children, who are attending college in the United States.

Some people say he has lost his virginity in the case of Badme, where Ethiopia went to a severe war with Eritrea for two years; he announced the public that the international court has ruled Badme as a territory of Ethiopia, which in reality it was ruled to Eritrea. Many Ethiopians went out to streets to celebrate the event of the court ruling. And when the truth was revealed finally Mesfin became too ashamed to appear in public, making a shameful end to his illegitmate carrier of farce diplomacy.
