Vintage Wolf

Vintage Wolf

Vintage Wolf is a post-experimental indie rock band based out of Canadian cities Montreal and Saskatoon.

Known for its panoptic instrumentation, oscillating lineup and raucous performances, the outfit became Toreador Records' flagship act in early 2000. Vintage Wolf's core membership includes Réné Beaudoin, Guytête Mouette, "Deux-Points" Scrappe, Natasse Béseauplanque, Don Jéné, Michel Ours-Acier, Bruno Arche, and Claude Balles. Ironically, the group has accrued considerably less notoriety than its core members' side-projects and coadjutants, namely Ugly Casanova, Bell Orchestre, The Postal Service and The Pixies.

Early History

Prior to 2006, Vintage Wolf was pressed chiefly for their refusal to produce an album in spite of a reportedly lucrative recording contract. Fearing the loss of the band’s apparent promise altogether, Toreador executives abstained from legal action for nearly seven years.

Albums

The release of 2006’s "La Beau Belle (Hey, Pretty Pretty!)" marked the end of Vintage Wolf’s six-year production dearth and industry denigration. The critically-revered double-EP debut featured the highly innovative “Montreal style” production of Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s Efrim Menuck, in collaboration with G.O.O.D. Records’ Fonzworth Bentley. Many regard the team’s idiosyncratic congruities and deferential dissonance as the secret behind the album’s eclecticism.
