Alvarion Ltd. (NASDAQ:ALVR, TASE:ALVR) is a leading provider of WiMAX and non-WiMAX wireless broadband systems to carriers, ISPs and private network operators around the world. They have offices in 23 countries, including their corporate headquarters in Tel Aviv, Israel. The company directly employs 444 people worldwide and reported net revenue of US$236.6 million for their most recent fiscal year, which ended on December 31, 2007.

Alvarion was originally incorporated as BreezeCOM Ltd. in September, 1992. In August, 2001, BreezeCOM was merged with another Israeli company, Floware Wireless Systems Ltd., and changed its name to Alvarion. They acquired InnoWave Ltd. in April, 2003. Finally, with the acquisition of interWAVE Communications International Ltd., completed in December, 2004, Alvarion expanded into the mobile GSM equipment market and gained expertise in mobile systems. Most of the interWAVE operations became their Cellular Mobile business unit, which was sold to LGC Wireless, Inc. in November, 2006. Alvarion was one of the first companies to produce IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN equipment and made a major contribution to the development of the IEEE 802.11 standard itself. In collaboration with the Swedish Space Corporation and using its own BreezeNET DS.11 product, it also claims to hold a World record of longest Wireless LAN link ever achieved - 310km from ground to a weather balloon (although it has been heavily amplified, used a huge dish antennae, and had an automatic tracking system). [ [http://www.alvarion.com/presscenter/pressreleases/3263/ News & Events - Press Releases ] ] [ [http://www.newswireless.net/index.cfm/article/1146/] This record is not found in The Guinness Book of Records, however.

Alvarion is also active in the development of the new IEEE 802.16x WiMAX standards and is one of the first manufacturers to offer mobile WiMAX systems.
