Günther Weidlinger (born
April 5 1978 inBraunau am Inn ) is anAustria n long-distance runner.He finished eighth in the
3000 m steeplechase final at the2000 Olympics . He has also reached the final in the same event at theEuropean Athletics Championships twice, finishing last in 2002 and 7th in 2006 inGothenburg . At the2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships he competed in3000 m and finished seventh. He finished 3rd at the World Military Games in Sicily in December 2003 at the 5000 m. At the 2007 Osaka World Championships he suffered an injury after a collision with one of the barriers. He was subsequently rushed to hospital to treat facial injuries received in the fall which included a split lip, and a cut jaw. His was the most serious incident in a series of accidents in the long-distance events at the championships. Weidlinger was considered a certain qualifier and an outside medal chance.He is the Austrian record holder over 1500 m, 3000 m steeplechase and 5000 m. On September 1st, 2008 he won the Nike Human Race 10K race with a time of 29 minutes, 25 seconds while running in Munich, Germany
