Doveton Corrie Schools

The Doveton Corrie Schools occupy a vast campus in the township of Vepery in the city of Chennai, India. It carries the reputation of being one of the oldest Anglo Indian schools in India. Started on 1 March 1855, the School has been eponymously named after the last names of its benefactor Captain John Doveton and from the Bishop Corrie High School, which with it entered an amalgamation.

Captain John Doveton was an Anglo-Indian who played a significant role in the British campaigns of Afghanistan, Mysore and Central India and bequeathed 50,000 pounds for the purpose of education which led to the formation of the Doveton Corrie Schools and Doveton College in Calcutta (now Kolkata).

The Doveton Corrie Schools comprise the Boys' Anglo Indian School, the Girls' Anglo Indian School, the Doveton-Oakley School and the Matriculation School which offers co-education.

Today, the Schools are under the Presidency of Mr. H. E. Wilkins. The Boys', Girls', Doveton-Oakley and Matriculation Schools being pioneered by Mr. I. Pandian, Mrs. S. Dawson, Mrs. Maizie Lavocah and Mrs. Petal Theodore respectively. The schools have etched out a niche for themselves in the field of academia and sports with students from the Girls' School bagging State Ranks in High School and Higher Secondary Exams and boys participating in several state and national sporting events.
