Built in the 1950s basically to serve CTA, the airport originally only had a dirt runway. In the 1970s, the runway was paved with asphalt and lengthened to 3,000 meters. The airport is equipped also to handle instrument landings today and features a parking apron that can now handle a large cargo plane.
Services
OceanAir flies out of the airport to São Paulo (15') and Rio de Janeiro (45'), whose flights are frequented mainly by business travellers. It has been certified for international cargo flights since 2000. Treatment ofcargo , as well as the fees for warehousing and handling, is similar to that at Infraero’s other freight terminals, with discounts seeking to reduce costs and streamline the clearance process, an important factor for local industries.References
