Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf Airport [pt icon [http://www.guiadeaerodromos.com.br/ Guia de Aeródromos Brasileiros] ] airport codes|SJK|SBSJ, also known as São José dos Campos - Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf Airport, is a public-use airport located 12 km from downtown São José dos Campos, a city in the state of São Paulo in Brazil.

Operated by the Infraero, the airport shares its runway with the Brazilian General Command for Aerospace Technology (CTA), Embraer and the city's flying club. It has a passenger terminal with the capacity of 90,000/year and is served by a snack bar, taxis and public telephones. It handled 45,030 passengers in 2005.

History

Built in the 1950s basically to serve CTA, the airport originally only had a dirt runway. In the 1970s, the runway was paved with asphalt and lengthened to 3,000 meters. The airport is equipped also to handle instrument landings today and features a parking apron that can now handle a large cargo plane.

Services

OceanAir flies out of the airport to São Paulo (15') and Rio de Janeiro (45'), whose flights are frequented mainly by business travellers. It has been certified for international cargo flights since 2000. Treatment of cargo, as well as the fees for warehousing and handling, is similar to that at Infraero’s other freight terminals, with discounts seeking to reduce costs and streamline the clearance process, an important factor for local industries.
