Max-Emanuel Ludwig Maria Herzog in Bayern, sometimes styled Prince Max of Bavaria, Duke in Bavaria, born 21 January 1937 as son of Albrecht, Duke of Bavaria, is the heir presumptive to both the former Bavarian Royal House and the Jacobite Succession.

Family

Max married Countess Elizabeth Douglas in a civil ceremony in Kreuth on 10 January, 1967 and a religious ceremony in Munich on 24 January, 1967. They have five daughters:
*Duchess Sophie Elizabeth Marie Gabrielle in Bavaria (born 28 October, 1967 in Munich). She married Alois, Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein. They have four children:
** Prince Joseph Wenzel of Liechtenstein (born 24 May 1995 in London)

uccession Rights

As differentiated from the United Kingdom or any of its preceding kingdoms, the Bavarian crown could only be inherited by or through a female heir upon demise of all males of the dynasty. Because Max has no sons, the right to be called head of the former Bavarian Royal House will pass after his death to a cousin, Prince Luitpold of Bavaria or to Luitpold's son, Prince Ludwig of Bavaria, and his descendants. The position of heir of the House of Stuart will pass to Max's eldest daughter Sophie, Hereditary Princess of Liechtenstein.
