Canadian Senate Page Program

The Senate Pages are responsible for a wide variety of activities associated with the legislative process. They prepare the Senate Chamber for sittings, assist with Senate sittings and in Senate committees, participate in notable and special events involving the Senate, assist with youth outreach programs involving the Senate such as Encounters With Canada, and work to improve the Senate Page Program itself. Characteristics of a Senate Page

Senate Pages are full-time students pursuing their first undergraduate degree at one of the four National Capital Region universities (Carleton University, Saint Paul University, University of Ottawa and Université du Québec en Outaouais). Senate Pages have no previous experience as a Page on Parliament Hill (such as experience in the Canadian House of Commons Page Program). They are able to communicate orally, at the advanced level, in English and in French. Finally, they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Remuneration and Contract Length

Senate Pages are hired on a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal for a second year. They are remunerated with a salary of per annum $11 236.Pages also have the opportunity of remaining for a third year if chosen as Chief or Deputy Chief Page. The Deputy Chief Page is remunerated $17 906. The Chief Page is remunerated $19 363.All Pages receive a bonus of $1200 upon the successful completion of their contract.
