A grasshopper is a sweet, mint-flavored, after-dinner drink. The name of the drink is derived from its green color which is provided by the Crème de menthe.

Recipe

Ingredients:
*2.0 cl Crème de menthe (green)
*2.0 cl Crème de cacao (white)
*2.0 cl Fresh cream

Mixing instructions:

In a shaker filled with ice cubes, combine the Crème de menthe, creme de cacao, and fresh cream. Shake well for about 6-8 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Variations

For a "Vodka Grasshopper", substitute vodka for the fresh cream. This may also be called a "Flying Grasshopper".

For a "Brown Grasshopper", add in ground coffee.

In the North Central states, especially Wisconsin, Grasshoppers are blended drinks where ice cream is substituted for cream.

Grasshopper milkshake

*2 cups Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream
*1/2 cup milk
*2 tablespoons crème de menthe
*1 miniature or broken cream filled chocolate sandwich cookie
