Fochabers ,Scotland . It has its roots in a grocer's shop opened by George Baxter in 1868. Baxter's shop became known for supplyingpickles andpreserves in the early 20th century, when George's son and daughter-in-law began preparing their ownbeetroot , and selling it to other grocers.Today Baxters is best known for tinned
soup s, made to unique recipes, such as Royal Game. In recent years they have bought up other food companies, includingGarner’s Foods Ltd andCCL Foods plc . Despite the size of the company, they still maintain an image as a "family business", with a series of advertisements showing the Baxter family heavily involved in the preparation of their products.Baxters operate manufacturing sites in
Fochabers andColchester in the UK. They also have manufacturing sites inWolsztyn ,Poland andSt Hyacinthe ,Montreal ,Canada . They also have Sales & Marketing offices inGlasgow ,Scotland andMelbourne ,Australia .Baxters also own and operate several shop/restaurant facilities across Scotland. These include branches at Ocean Terminal in Edinburgh,
Tullibardine in Perthshire,Selkirk in the Scottish Borders and the "Highland Village" at their headquarters inFochabers .The Company Sold off the Chilled soups division to
Northern Foods in 2008.Highland Village Visitors Center
Highland Village is the headquarters of the business and boasts a tourism history as well as a well known retail department. The site contain six shops: the speciality food shop (George Baxter's Cellar), the cookshop (Mrs Baxter's Cookshop), the men and women's clothing shop (Coat and Swagger), the Bookshop and Toyshop (the Cabin), the Whisky shop (The Old shop), and the Giftshop (originally the Christmas/Sale shop). Each has its own area and decor; the Whisky shop was in fact a replica of the original shop up until 2007 when half of it was converted into a whisky, wine and spirits shop in order to free up some space in the Food shop to which it is connected. The Great Hall used to be a reception area but has now been converted into a luxury Signature Tea room, specialising in High Teas and Bistro evenings during selected periods. A beautiful room that is worth stepping into if only just to view its large beamed ceiling or old fireplace.Fact|date=August 2008
