Queens of Noize

Queens of Noize

Queens of Noize are an English indie/disco DJ duo based in London. The constituent members are Mairead Nash and Tabitha Denholm.

Career

Their career began in 2002 at Club 333 in Shoreditch, and since then their club night has moved to the Camden Barfly, and they have performed at many different festivals and clubs internationally, including the Carling Weekend, Roskilde Festival and Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, and have presented their own show on MTV2. They have also released their own single, "Indie Boys (Don't Deserve It)", to little critical or commercial success. They are well-known in the British music press for their strong links with the up-and-coming stars of the London indie scene, both business and romantic; between them they have been linked with Johnny Borrell, Pete Doherty, Elton Welsby, Jason Stollsteimer and Ted 'Roland Shanks' Pearce, and Zezi Ifore among others. They inspired the name of Pete Doherty's band Babyshambles, after nicknaming him "Babyshambles", and his fellow Libertine Carl Barat "Papashingles". The tracks "Mairead" by Von Bondies, "No Good Time" by Graham Coxon and "Golden Touch" by Razorlight are said to be about Nash.

They started presenting a radio show in September 2006 on BBC 6 Music, called Queens of Noize Sonic Safari. Firstly presented the show from 12:00am-2:00am Saturday into Sunday. Then from 07th April 2007 the show moved to a Saturday afternoon time slot 4:00pm-6:00pm until 31st May 2008 when the slot was taken over by Lauren Laverne[1]. The Queens then hosted a two-hour show on BBC 6 Music 12:00am-2:00am Friday into Saturday from June 2008 until April 2009. As well their own show they also presented the Listener 6 Mix on Sunday nights 8:00pm-10:00pm between Nov 2007 until Sept 2008, then took over the 6 Mix for a time.

Their controversial appearance on Loose Lips is widely thought to have played a part towards the show's collapse, and the consequent disbandment of Derek Acorah and co.[citation needed]

In June 2008, they became the second guest presenters of Big Brother's Big Mouth.
