Kew College is a mixed independent school in Kew, Surrey, England.

[http://www.kewcollege.com/ Kew College] is an independent school for boys and girls aged from 3 to 11. Situated in Kew Gardens, Surrey, the school was founded in 1953 by Mrs Hamilton-Spry. Kew College became a charitable trust in 1983. Mrs Diana Lyness became Headteacher in 1992, upon the retirement of Mrs Hamilton-Spry.

Kew College has an excellent academic record: children frequently gain entry to their first choice of London day school at secondary level, many with scholarships. The importance of English, Maths and Science is emphasised at the school, but within a broad curriculum, which includes Art, drama, French, IT, Music and Sport.

Kew College occupies the same site as it did in 1953, however the purchase of new land and the development of the grounds has meant it is now considerably larger. The school now comprises two large refurbished Victorian houses fronting Cumberland Road, together with two large buildings to the rear known as the Octagon and the Sedum. The Sedum is the most recent addition and was opened in November 2005. It houses a performance hall, Library, Science and ICT laboratories as well as three music rooms.

Teaching in the Junior Department builds on the strong foundations from the Infant Department and extends beyond the National Curriculum. Subjects are taught in a structured environment, preparing the children well for Common Entrance examinations to Senior Schools. The Core Subjects of Math, English and Science are taught enthusiastically with a wide and varied curriculum.

English is split into Grammar, Comprehension, Story Writing, Reading and Handwriting which enables pupil to use these skills in other subjects such as History, Geography, Music, Art, French, ICT, Latin, Religious Education, PSHE and Citizenship. Emphasis on strong communication skills is regarded as paramount as the children aspire towards year six.

In the Science curriculum, aspects of biology, chemistry and physics are revised in each year group and then developed in increasing detail. As part of our continuing commitment to education, a new hi-tech science lab has been built which will further enhance the opportunity for children to discover and interact with the world around them. Both Maths and Science are taught in a structured, yet creative atmosphere where pupils can experiment with problem solving, scientific experiments and further participation in the form of non-verbal and verbal reasoning.

With generous allotments to art each week the pupils truly develop their potential, producing exciting work. In 2005, Kew College was invited to display a variety of art work in Britain's National Gallery, London, as part of the [http://www.takeonepicture.org/ac/ict/ict_ex6.html 'Take One Picture'] programme. This year, once again, Kew College has participated in 'Take One Picture', and produced some truly inspired artworks.

As the children progress through the school from year three upwards our focus is on building confidence and encouraging the children to have independent thought. We encourage responsible behaviour and a solid structure within each peer group.
