Toolbank

Toolbank

ToolBank is a community tool library, or lending house of tools and equipment, for use by charitable organizations in volunteer and facility maintenance projects. The current inventory of equipment includes tools for landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, masonry as well as power tools, ladders, generators, and more. The term 'toolbank' is presently registered to the [http://www.toolbank.org Atlanta Community ToolBank] .

The ToolBank model is distinct from the typical tool lending library model, in that individuals do not have access to ToolBank equipment: the ToolBank tool inventory is for the sole purpose of increasing the impact of the nonprofit sector and other community-minded organizations. Typical users of ToolBank resources include faith-based organizations, public schools, neighborhood organizations, public/private partnerships with community-oriented missions, social clubs with a service mission, and others. Proof of charitable intent must be provided before accessing ToolBank tools.

In 2006, the Atlanta Community ToolBank equipped more than 54,000 volunteers and provided tools for more than 725 service projects.

The first known use of the term 'toolbank' was by the [http://www.toolbank.org Atlanta Community ToolBank] , after launching the [http://www.toolbank.org/Programs/ToolLendingLibrary/TLLMain/tabid/177/Default.aspx Tool Lending Library] program in 1994.
