Sidney Franklin (11 July 1903 – 6 April 1976) was the first American to become a successful bullfighter.
Born Sidney Frumkin in [Brooklyn, New York] , Franklin attended, but later dropped out of Columbia University. After learning the art of the matador in Mexico, he fought bulls in Spain and Latin America. He briefly featured in Ernest Hemingway's "Death in the Afternoon". Hemingway rated him very highly but it is generally thought to have overrated him. Fact|date=April 2007
Franklin appeared in a number of films in the USA and Mexico. Later he presented bullfights on American TV. He wrote an autobiography, "Bullfighter from Brooklyn". He died in New York City.
