Born in Presidente Prudente, a city of the state of Sao Paulo and Italian origins, began in professional football in St. Paul, where he remained for three years and then go and play for one season all'Albacete, Spain. The following year he returned to his homeland, this time to Palmeiras, another team of St. Paul and acerrima enemy than having the same name of the city. After three years emigrated again, this time in Japan, Kashiwa Reysol, where once again remained for only one year before returning to play again in St. Paul, but this time at Corinthians.
In January 1998 Zago moved to Rome, wanted by Zeman to reinforce the defence. In game debut, 11 February 1998 (Lecce-Roma) was expelled after a few minutes of play, but with the club giallorosso made the leap in quality, so that in 1999 riconquistò also a place in his National Assembly. At Rome Zago remained five years and was also part of the training sample of Italy in 2001, a fact which remains an idol to the public romanista, who soprannominò Terminator. International career
He debuted in the selection of Brazil on October 30, 1991 against Yugoslavia (3-1) and remained within the national squad until 1993.
