The E Embarcadero is intended to become theSan Francisco Municipal Railway 's second heritage streetcar line inSan Francisco, California , once additional historic streetcars are restored and brought into service.Route
The line will run along the length of the Embarcadero, along existing track used by the
F Market & Wharves historic streetcar and theN Judah andT Third Street Muni Metro lines. Initial service will run from Jones Street and Jefferson Street in Fisherman's Wharf to theCaltrain station at King Street and 4th Street in the Mission Bay neighborhood, but since there is no loop at the Caltrain station, so only double-ended streetcars will be able to operate on the line until the 19th Street loop is built. To the north, the line may extend west past Aquatic Park and through an unused railroad tunnel to
Fort Mason . The initial routing of the line will be nearly identical to the 32 Embarcadero bus line, which was discontinued after theF Market & Wharves began operating along the Embarcadero in 2000.Previous E Embarcadero line
When the Muni Metro extension from
Embarcadero Station to the Caltrain Station began operation in1998 , shuttle service only from Caltrain to Embarcadero was provided by an E Embarcadero Muni Metro line. This line was later replaced by an extension of theN Judah line. Today service on this segment is provided by theT Third Street andN Judah lines.External links
