- Richard C. Halverson
The Reverend Richard Christian Halverson, D.D., (1916-1995), was born in
Pingree, North Dakota . He attended Valley City State Teacher College inValley City, North Dakota before earning aBachelor of Science degree from Wheaton College inWheaton, Illinois . He also earned aBachelor of Theology degree fromPrinceton Theological Seminary and was awarded an honoraryDoctorate of Laws degree from Wheaton College. Like his contemporary,Billy Graham ,Henrietta Mears of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood had a signifincant influence on his life.Dr. Halverson was a minister of the
Presbyterian Church (USA) and served from 1958 until 1981 as the SeniorPastor of Fourth Presbyterian Church,Bethesda, Maryland . He served as the Chaplain to theU.S. Senate fromFebruary 2 ,1981 untilDecember 31 ,1994 . He was an Associate of theInternational Prayer Breakfast movement starting in 1956. He was a member of the Board ofWorld Vision , from 1956 to 1983, serving as chairman from 1966 to 1983. He was the President ofConcern Ministries , a charitable foundation inWashington, D.C. .Awards
He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Valley City State University on
May 20 ,1977 . He received theTheodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Award from the state of North Dakota onMarch 26 ,1994 .Books
