Geography

The town lies about 45 km west of Florence and about 25 km east of Pisa. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 11,266 and an area of 38.3 km².All demographics and other statistics: Italian statistical institute Istat.]

Santa Maria a Monte borders the following municipalities: Bientina, Calcinaia, Castelfranco di Sotto, Montopoli in Val d'Arno, Pontedera.

Villages

Cappelletto is a rural village of about 100 inhabitants, which is rapidly increasing. Cappelletto lies in the countryside near a woodland.

The village and "località" of Falorni has about 120 inhabitants (2005) and is situated about 80 meters above the sea level. Around Falorni there is a large portion of woods and cultivated areas, especially with olives. The place is situated in the low woody hills called Cerbaie. The only business situated in the village is a restaurant.
