Ivar is a brand of backpacks, or daypacks, based on the patented Ivar System Shelf Design technology - a main compartment angled shelving design that provides unique comfort, weight distribution, organization, and stability.

The Ivar Story

The shelf design concept Ivar is based on was created, originally, in 1998 by Ian Ivarson. At the time, Ivarson was in his latter years as a high school student at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California. Between then and July 2006 when Ivar was officially launched, Ivarson slowly developed the concept. He used, first, a sewer in Berkeley, California. Eventually, Ivarson began working direct with unionized factories in Vietnam and China. Ivarson also filed for and was granted patents on the concept. Ivarson sold his first pack to a college roommate at the University of Denver just prior to graduation in 2004.

In April 2002, Ivarson incorporated Ivarson USA LLC as the owner, designer, and distributing vehicle of Ivar product and officially launched the new Ivar backpack brand in July 2006.

The Ivar System is a patented technology and encompasses an internal sewn-in shelving design, for weight distribution and organizational purposes.
