Degodia

Degodia ( _so. Dagoodiye) is Somali subclan and branch of Gugudhabe, which in turn is part of larger Hawiye clan.

The Degodia is one of the many clans of Somalis. they are brothers to ciise saransoor, galjacel saransoor as they are also sons of saransoor.They are found in the border areas of Kenya and Ethiopia, in the Liban Zone of Ethiopia Somali region and parts of central Somalia. They keep the best camel breed, oorta type and cattle in southeastern rangelands of Ethiopia and northern Kenya. They speak a unique Somali accent which is sometimes referred to as the original Somali dialect. In the past, they were headed by A WABAR (king) but he has lost his political clout since the Degodia have been divided into 3 countries of Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia. They form a close net of families mostly they reside along the Somalia/Ethiopia border in the rangelands around the dawa and hubiweine River. The Degodia depend on pastoralism and are known for breeding an excellent Borana species of cattle.Above all,degodia are the most respected people in hawiye community and are known for they kindness and supportive to all somalia's regardless of the tribe they come from. In the larger northern kenya it is the people who fought for NFD and when it failed there joined kenya as part and parcel in 1963.However the greater somali was not favoured by this move and many of degodias end up jail at somali moqdishu. in 1984 the great wagalla mascare happened to degodia, more than 5000 people were mercillesly tortured to death by kenya government at wajir which was named wagalla and up to date no compensation was made even though europeans and international human right still are waiting from kenya government.Degodias are so many that in ethiopia there are the most peaceful people and they are estimated over 5 million. They have many members of parliarment in Ethiopia as well as kenyan ministers.the WABAR is the leader of Degodiya wherever they are and he is based at Ethiopia where he is been respected by all. Degodia are believed the most educated and brightest people in the somali community.they are attached to traditionals as well as moderns despite of valuing "xeer".Despite of Degodia leaving at Somali, at currently the Somali transitional government denied Degodia a chance to the newly government they formed. Many people believe it is not based on peoples wishes but, some ways of warlords.
