William Jervis Hough

William Jervis Hough

William Jervis Hough (March 20, 1795 - October 4, 1869) was a United States Representative from New York.

Born in Cazenovia, New York, he studied law and practiced in Syracuse, New York. He was a member of the State Assembly in 1835 and 1836 and participated in the in the State militia, becoming a General. Elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-ninth Congress, he served one term from March 4, 1845 to March 3, 1847). He was a member of the committee that managed the construction of a building for the new Smithsonian Institution, and he served as a member of the Institution's Board of Regents.

Afterwards, he resumed the practice of law in Syracuse, where he died on October 4, 1869. He is interred in Oakwood Cemetery in the last row to the left.
