Ernesto Köhler (December 4, 1849, ModenaMarch 17, 1907, Saint Petersburg) was a flautist and composer. He was taught the flute, by his father: Venceslau Joseph Köhler, who was the first flute of the Duke of Modena's orchestra.

In 1869, after beginning his career as a flautist, he moved to Vienna and then on to Saint Petersburg in 1871, where he remained. He spent his life as a member of the orchestra of the Imperial Opera and as a soloist and composer. He was also a teacher at the Prinz Oldenburg Institute and lead the orchestra of the Imperial Institute of Engineering.

He composed over 100 works for the flute from studies (études) to duets and solos. Köhler also produced an opera and several ballets. He is famous for his "Progress in Flute Playing" Op.33 study books. This series of 3 books varying from Easy to Advanced were published c. 1888. He is well known among flute players for his popular method for learning the flute,"Flöten-Schule" c.1880.

Ernesto Köhler died in Saint Petersburg on March 17th,1907
