Stoke City , where he failed to make the grade and mved into non league playing for Ellesmere Port Town in his native Liverpool. Whilst there, local league clubTranmere Rovers noticed him and signed him in January 1962 and after only 8 games in 2 seasons, moved up 2 divisions to sign forPreston North End . He did not stay long atDeepdale before moving back into non-league with Welsh sideBangor City in theCheshire County League . But again did not dwell in non-league for too long before being signed by Fourth DivisionDoncaster Rovers and became an important member of their Championship winning side in 1965.Joe Mercer signed him forManchester City signed in 1966 and consequently Doncaster suffered as a result and spiralled back down to Division Four. Whilst atMaine Road , Coleman won League Championship andFA Cup winners medals, before moving toSheffield Wednesday which was less than successful as Wednesday were relegated to start their downfall to Division Three. This was followed by a spell at Blackpool, before Coleman emmigrated toSouth Africa and then to return to England to see out his playing days at Southport,Stockport County andMacclesfield Town .Honours won
