Gazzaniga is a "comune" (municipality) in the Province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy, located about 60 km northeast of Milan and about 15 km northeast of Bergamo. Gazzaniga borders the following municipalities: Albino, Aviatico, Cene, Cornalba, Costa di Serina, Fiorano al Serio, Vertova.

History

Traces of human presence in the Bronze Age have been found. The first document attesting the existence of a burgh dates from 476 AD, when the barbaric king Odoacer sacked it. In the Middle Ages it was part of the Confederazione de Honio with other nearby communes; in 1397 it was destroyed by the Ghibellines, followed by the Guelphs the next year.

Later it was a possession of the Republic of Venice. In 1629 it suffered for a plague.
