Keef Hartley (born
April 8 ,1944 inPreston, England ) is a British musician. Hartley's career began as a replacement toRingo Starr as a drummer forRory Storm and the Hurricanes ,a popularLiverpool band. Hartley then played and recorded withThe Artwoods andJohn Mayall's Bluesbreakers , before forming his own band shortly afterwards, TheKeef Hartley Band . The group mixed elements ofJazz ,Blues , andRock and Roll and played at the originalWoodstock Festival in 1969. Their sound was compared favorably toBlood, Sweat, and Tears .In 2007, Hartley released an autobiography, "Halfbreed (A rock and roll journey that happened against all the odds.)"
