footnotes =Rapid City is a small community located in southwest
Manitoba ,Canada . Not really a city, but a town. In the 1870's as the railroad expanded, more settlers were drawn to the area to build their homes and set up their businesses. The town was originally called Rolston's Colony (after John Rolston, an early settler). Around 1877 it was decided to rename the town Rapid City. Since the town was on the banks of the Little Saskatchewan River and it was a "rapid stream" they chose Rapid and city reflecting the optimism of those early settlers. [cite book|title= Geographic Names of Manitoba|Publisher= Manitoba Conservation|year= 2000] Rapid City continues to be a small farming community of about five hundred people and it celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2008. The dam and reservoir shown in the photo were built by the province in 1961. The reservoir stores convert|200|acre feet and provides a water supply and recreational facility for the town.References
