Thomas Schulze is a German
opera singer.Thomas Schulze was born in
Wetzlar and grew up inStuttgart ,Germany . In his youth he sang with theStuttgarter Hymnus-Chorknaben . On completing his studies inBerlin , Thomas sang inHagen andKoblenz and performed with the 'Deutsche Oper Berlin ', theBonn Opera , theStaatstheater am Gärtnerplatz inMunich , the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Saarbrucken, Braunschweig and numerous other opera houses in Germany and abroad. His repertoire covers the lyric tenor portions of Mozart and Donizetti, to Britten and Henze as well as roles in the classical operettas and the modern musical.Thomas has also taken part in many recordings for TV, radio and on record, including a solo CD with songs by
Beethoven , Schumann,Mozart and Schubert. Thomas has appeared in many festivals through out Europe, includingMontepulciano (Italy) andCuenca, Spain in opera, as the Evangelist in Bach's St Matthew's Passion, and St John's Passion. Thomas has also participated in many Leider recitals, and has worked withRiccardo Chailly ,Wolfgang Sawallisch , Aldo Ceccato,Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau , and many other well-known conductors. Thomas has also attendedAlfredo Kraus Masterclasses.In 1982 received Thomas Schulze the O.E.Hasse Prize of the Academy of the Arts Berlin, and was 1985 winner of the international Mozart competition inSalzburg .Thomas Schulze belonged to the premiere cast of the Hamburg '
Phantom of the Opera ' production, where he was to be first seen in the role of Monsieur André, and then the Raoul Vicomte de Chagny. From 1993 to 1998 he sang as the lead, the Phantom.Since February 2002, Thomas has been teaching the singing and interpretation of classical German songs at the Royal Northern College of Music in
Manchester ,England . Thomas is also a singing tutor at the college.
