- Igbide clan
Igbide is an Isoko clan located in
Isoko South Local Government Area ofDelta State ,Nigeria . The predominant occupation is fishing. This is done mainly in theUrie lake (also the scene of a popular annual fishing festival) located atOwodokpokpo . There is also some farming concentrated mainly on cassava and groundnuts. It is believed the Igbide people originated fromMgbidi in the Eastern (Igbo) part of Nigeria. This marks them distinctively from most otherIsoko clans who, some believe albeit erroneously [http://www.waado.org/Organizations/UHS/AnnualConferences/sixth/ikime/Ikime_isoko_urhobo.htm] , mainly originated fromBenin . This affiliation to the Igbos can be observed in the dress/costume codes of the Igbides in major festivals like ABAME, the salutation sequence and chants as well as the mercantile nature of a typical Igbide man. The Igbide people took early to Christianity. Owodokpokpo, a community in Igbide clan, is regarded as one of the main entry points of Christianity into Isoko land. Igbide is also an oil producing community and host to Shell's Oroni oilfield.External links
