South Loughton Cricket Club was founded in 1938, and plays at the Roding Road Cricket Ground in this commuter town in metropolitan Essex, England. In 2007, its 1st XI became Ten-17 Herts & Essex League champions, having won the title following three consecutive promotions.
The club also runs three other Saturday XIs playing league and friendly cricket, two Sunday XIs, and has a thriving junior section offering coaching and matchplay for children aged six upwards. In 2006 the club 'incorporated' Debden CC, a well-established Sunday 'wandering' team.
The club was one of the first in the country to gain Sport England's prestigious 'Clubmark' accreditation, signifying that it is a 'safe, effective and child-friendly sports club'. It is also an England & Wales Cricket Board 'Focus Club'.
The club has a strong commitment to cricket for people with disabilities. In 2008 South Loughton became involved in 'Hit the Top', a pioneering project for young people with disabilities run by the charity Cricket4Change. The club hosted training and matches for the Essex Mild Learning Disability and Visual Impairment squads, staged inter-school and inter-county tournaments, and is aiming to create a fully integrated coaching and matchplay programme.
